Idependence Day...

Independence Day!

Ok just what does the 4th of July mean to you? Good food, friends/family, fireworks, even a day off from work. Wow! Sounds like fun to me, but… do you really know why we celebrate this day?
Do you know how many men signed a document giving us freedom, and Independence? Do you know what that document is called? How about how long it took to be written, and who wrote it? Well of course I researched it all so that you could be educated.

The Congress met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and they appointed a committee (a group of people working together to do a specific job) to write a formal document that would tell Great Britain that the Americans had decided to govern themselves. The committee asked Thomas Jefferson to write a draft (first try) of the document, so he worked for days, in absolute secret, until he had written a document that he thought said everything important that the committee had discussed. On June 28, 1776, the committee met to read Jefferson's "fair" copy (he put his best ideas together and wrote them neatly.) They revised (made some changes) the document and declared their independence on July 2, 1776. They officially adopted it (made it theirs) on July 4, 1776. That is why we call it "Independence Day." Congress ordered that all members must sign the Declaration of Independence and they all began signing the "official" copy on August 2, 1776. In January of the next year, Congress sent signed copies to all of the states
The Declaration of Independence is more than just a piece of paper. It is a symbol of our country's independence and commitment to certain ideas. A symbol is something that stands for something else. Most people can look at a certain little "swoosh" and know that it stands for "Nike." Well, the signers of the Declaration of Independence wanted the citizens of the United States to have a document that spelled out what was important to our leaders and citizens. They wanted us to be able to look at the Declaration of Independence and immediately think of the goals we should always be working for, and about the people who have fought so hard to make these ideas possible. The people who signed the Declaration risked being hanged for treason by the leaders in Great Britain. They had to be very brave to sign something that would be considered a crime! So every time we look at the Declaration of Independence, we should think about all of the effort and ideas that went into the document, and about the courage it took for these people to stand up for what they knew was right -- independence!

These men put their lives on the line so that we could have our independence, knowing that they could hang for it. They even make talk about who would die first while hanging. Now that’s one hell of a sacrifice to make for all us. That makes me think about something. Christ died on the cross for our sins, knowing he was doing it to better this world. Then 56 men took a chance of losing their lives, knowing, and expecting to die by hanging, for our independence. Then thousands of lives were lost in 911, so we could become a better nation, WHY DOES IT TAKE THE LOSS OF LIVES OR EVEN THE THREAT TO WAKE US UP?

So when you are visiting with your family/friends, eating all the good food, and watching the parades and ending the day with fireworks. Take a few minutes and think about the many sacrifices so many people have made for your life. Just say thanks to all the lives lost for your freedom.

In closing, I want to take a few minutes, and remind you all to be safe and responsible today. Have the best day that you can have. It takes a group of people to have a wonderful day, but only one irresponsible person to ruin it!

Acts of Kindness...

Acts of Kindness...
Today I was having trouble coming up with a topic to write about, when my girls gave me some options. Christina came up with the topic "Life as a Single Parent", and Naomi came with "Kindness of Heart". The first topic I got is a great story in the making, so I chose to do the topic Naomi gave me. I pray that after you read this it will bring out the kindness in your heart!
What does kindness mean to you? Do you know the meaning of kindness? I took the time to look up the defination of kindness, and here it is:
noun
1. the state or quality of being kind: kindness to animals.
2. a kind act; favor: his many kindnesses to me.
3. kind behavior: I will never forget your kindness.
4. friendly feeling; liking.
Are you any of the above? How do you relate to the meaning of kindness? Are you one of those people that are just downright mean to everyone? Here is the definition of meanness. I hope none of you are like this.
mean·ness (mçn'nĭs) Pronunciation Key
n. The state of being inferior in quality, character, or value; commonness.
The quality or state of being selfish or stingy.
A spiteful or malicious act.
Is that you? Are you so mean that you set out to hurt people all the time?
I pray that, if you are, this story will change your life forever. It just takes one act of kindness to change your life forever, so why not try it just once, you may like it!
Here is a few acts of kindness I want to share with you.
1) Every one knows that I have had many bad things happen to me in the last year. My life savings was stolen from me and my daughter Christina. Because of that happening, we became homeless, and lost everything! I do mean everything! We had to leave the place we were staying at in the middle of the night, and didn't have anywhere to go. We thought we had no one call at the time.
We called Christina's stepmom, and she didn't hesitate to come get us in the middle of the night! The ride to her house was filled with tears and reassurance that we were going to be ok. I looked out the window, knowing that we were going to be just fine.
It's been seven months since that night and things have changed for myself and Christina. Flo has taken us in and taken care of us for the full seven months, not asking for anything back, but to take care of her children when she is working. I have tried to give her some money back, and most of the time she wont take it.
Recently, things made it possible for Flo to take the three girls and me shopping. I asked her if she could buy me a coat since mine had been stolen. I also asked her to help me out with some supplies for Mind Freak.
She couldn't buy me both unless they were a resonable price. The tank and supplies we were looking at were kind of high priced, and a coat is always high priced as well. So I set out to find the best bargains as I could.
Flo is the type of person who shows all the acts of kindness! She puts people first, and in her acts of kindness, she reminds us all that there are still good people in the world. We all can learn from her and her acts of kindness, because some of us don't open our hearts, and show some kindness. Some of us don't try to be kind, and choose to be mean to others. That's where the selfishness comes into play.
I have been a part of a game where some one showed me kindness, and I thought it was the real thing. As it turned out, they only did it to sucker me into a room of people, then they told lies about me, and bashed me in front of the whole room! I lost so many friends over that mess, and I was hurt really badly. I don't trust anyone anymore, and it is hurting my friendships that I have now. But once burned, scarred forever! I am working on my life and the way this changed my life. I hope someday I will be able to let the wall around me crumble. It's the acts of kindness that Flo has shown me that are helping me to trust others. If I can do it so can you!
The other act of "kindness" was wrong, and it scarred me. I am sure many people have been scarred like me and they wont accept any acts of kindness. We must not let it deter us from accepting acts of kindness from others.
When you think about it kindness is shown in many ways. You don't have to buy things or give money, you can just "Pay it Forward" by being a good friend and doing something special for someone. Cook dinner for someone, maybe just send them a card, or just a phone call, saying, "I'm here for you". Kindness is shown in many ways, you just have to open your heart to it. Just talking to some one and praying for them is kindness, and it's the best act of kindness you can give!!! There are many acts of kindness, you just have to be careful of what types, you don't want to mislead anyone nor do you want to be hurt by someone's acts of "kindness"!!
In closing, I want to ask you this one question; "What have you done to show Acts of Kindness"? Take a few minutes to think about that question, then asnwer it for your self. Then make a list of what you can do to show more Acts of Kindness. Are doing what you can to help others in need, or are just showing a friend some Kindness today? It's so important that we all do our part to show some one some Kindness. You never know you could save some ones life, or just bring forth a smile.

Take time to give of your self, and you will be greatly rewarded in your own life!!! The world needs more Flo's, to make Kindness a complete circle!
